House Threatens FDA With Subpoena

Law360, New York (May 25, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two prominent Democratic lawmakers on Thursday charged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with stonewalling repeated requests for reports on food and medicine safety, threatening to issue subpoenas if the asked-for documents are not presented by June 1, they said.

"The delays and the quality of responses to the committee's requests concerning FDA are unacceptable,” wrote Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Bart Stupak (D-Mich.).

They threatened to use "compulsory process" to obtain the reports in question.
