Chemical Watchdog Blames DuPont For Deadly Gas Leak

Law360, New York (July 7, 2011, 4:37 PM EDT) -- An independent federal agency reported Thursday that DuPont Co. could have prevented three accidents at its Belle, W.Va., chemical plant in January 2010, including a leak that killed a worker after exposing him to toxic phosgene gas.

In a draft report and recommendations, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board found that the three accidents in a 33-hour period were caused by a series of safety hazards, including DuPont's failure to maintain a crucial hose for phosgene gas.
