BP Standards Could Be Model For New Rules: BOEMRE

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 1:57 PM EDT) -- BP PLC's new deepwater drilling standards, unveiled Friday, could be feasible for other big-league oil companies such as Shell Oil Co., the head of the nation's offshore drilling regulator told a congressional panel at a hearing on offshore energy.

Michael Bromwich, director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, told the House panel that the regulator would introduce new offshore rules, and acknowledged that BP's voluntary, more stringent standards could be a technologically and financially viable model, at least for big companies....
