Feds Say Scios Mislabeled Heart Drug Natrecor

Law360, New York (July 11, 2011, 9:43 PM EDT) -- Federal prosecutors in California on Thursday criminally charged Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Scios Inc. with mislabeling Natrecor, a drug used to treat a type of heart failure.

Scios' labeling for Natrecor lacked adequate directions for use from 2001 to 2005, according to a two-page charging document filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California.

The charge is a single misdemeanor count of violating the Food and Drug Administration Act, which carries a fine of up to $200,000 or twice the illegal gain....
