3 Plead Guilty In $200M Medicare Fraud Case

Law360, New York (July 13, 2011, 5:55 PM EDT) -- Three Miami residents pled guilty Wednesday to health care fraud and conspiracy charges in a kickback scheme that defrauded Medicare of more than $200 million, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

The guilty pleas stem from an investigation into alleged overbilling by American Therapeutic Corp., its management company, Medlink Professional Management Group Inc., and the American Sleep Institute. Prosecutors said ATC and ASI paid kickbacks to assisted living facilities, halfway houses and patient brokers in exchange for referring ineligible patient's to ASI's sleep disorder testing programs...
