Visa, MasterCard Face Suit Over WikiLeaks Blockade

Law360, New York (July 14, 2011, 2:33 PM EDT) -- Icelandic data center firm DataCell EHF on Tuesday accused Visa Europe Ltd. and MasterCard Europe Sprl of violating European competition laws when they refused to process donations for its client, the whistleblower group WikiLeaks.

The company lodged a complaint with the European Commission alleging the European affiliates of the credit card companies violated a ban on restrictive business practices and abused their market dominance by denying access to their payment card networks on the basis of DataCell's relationship with the controversial organization.
