Austrian Waste Co. Faces EU Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (July 15, 2011, 5:33 PM EDT) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog began investigating ARA AG on Friday, citing concerns that the Austrian recycling company might have abused its dominance to keep competitors out of the market.

The European Commission opened a formal probe into whether ARA — Austria's top waste management company — had limited access to its essential infrastructure to thwart rivals' efforts to enter or expand in the country's waste collection market in violation of EU antitrust law.
