US Vows To Defend Dolphin-Safe Tuna Labeling Goals

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 5:42 PM EDT) -- The U.S. vowed Wednesday to vigorously defend the policy goals behind its dolphin-safe tuna labeling rules amid reports that a World Trade Organization panel had sided with Mexico in a long-running dispute over the requirements.

The WTO panel concluded that the U.S. labeling rules violated its international trade commitments by unfairly keeping Mexican tuna from being sold in the country under the dolphin-safe label even though its fishing techniques comply with international standards, Dow Jones reported Tuesday citing a Mexican official familiar with the case....
