HP, Wal-Mart, Others Sued Over Rewritable Tech Patents

Law360, New York (July 20, 2011, 5:54 PM ET) -- Optical Memory Storage LLC filed suit in Michigan on Wednesday against more than a dozen companies, including Hewlett-Packard Co., Panasonic Corp., Fujifilm Holdings Corp. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., claiming infringement of three patents covering technology for rewritable discs.

Acacia Research Corp. unit OMS claims the defendants, who produce and sell CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, are infringing patents exclusively licensed by OMS that focus on optical recording mediums and phase-change materials typically found in rewritable discs.
