CBS, Paramount Get 'Happy Days' Merchandise Suit Pared

Law360, Los Angeles (July 20, 2011, 5:18 PM EDT) -- A California state judge on Wednesday threw out claims of fraud and conversion against CBS Studios Inc. and Paramount Pictures over allegations the studios cheated five former “Happy Days” cast members out of $10 million in contractually promised merchandising fees.

The ruling was just the first in what could be a series of battles over allegations that CBS and Paramount shortchanged actors from “Happy Days,” a beloved TV sitcom that ran from 1974 to 1984, on sales of a variety of show-related merchandise.
