Johnson & Johnson Sues Barr Laboraties Over Contraceptive

Law360, New York (October 12, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Healthcare company Johnson & Johnson has filed a lawsuit to block Barr Laboratories from selling a generic form of its Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo oral contraceptive, Bloomberg News reported. Johnson & Johnson's Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical unit claims the generic version would infringe its patented technology.

Barr applied to the Food and Drug Administration in June to sell a generic version of the contraceptive. The pill, with $110 million in sales per year, was introduced in September 2002.
