Spotify Hit With Patent Suits Soon After US Debut

Law360, New York (July 28, 2011, 2:03 PM EDT) -- Software company PacketVideo Corp. hit Spotify Ltd. with patent lawsuits in the Netherlands and California on Wednesday, less than two weeks after the much-heralded European digital music provider launched its service in the U.S.

In the complaint filed in California, PacketVideo said Spotify's digital music service — which allows customers to access music over the Web and share songs with friends — violates a U.S. patent owned by PacketVideo relating to digital music distribution.
