US Agencies Must Upgrade Social Media Policies: GAO

Law360, New York (July 28, 2011, 6:59 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office reported Thursday that federal agencies should do more to manage records and ensure privacy and security when using social media like Twitter to publicize their activities.

Of nearly two dozen major agencies surveyed, most haven’t developed records management, privacy or security policies that guide their use of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the GAO said, and at least four agencies lack any policies related to social media.
