Oprah Hit With Trademark Suit Over 'Own Your Power'

Law360, New York (July 29, 2011, 5:48 PM EDT) -- The owner of a Florida-based marketing company sued Oprah Winfrey on Friday in New Jersey federal court, claiming that Winfrey's new "Own Your Power" campaign infringes her trademark and unfairly competes with her business.

Own Your Power Communications Inc. owner Simone Kelly-Brown alleges that Winfrey, her production company Harpo Productions Inc., "O, The Oprah Magazine" co-owner Hearst Corp. and the motivational campaign's partners Wells Fargo & Co., Clinique Laboratories LLC, Estee Lauder Companies Inc. and Chico's FAS Inc. used her "Own Your Power" trademark without authorization...
