Hospital District Settles Fraud Suit For $15M

Law360, New York (June 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After three years of court battles, a publicly owned hospital district has agreed to a $15 million settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice over claims that it had filed false Medicaid and Medicare reports from 2000 to 2005.

Under the terms of the settlement, the Harris County Hospital District agreed to pay the U.S. and the state of Texas $15,449,126, one of the largest settlements ever raked in by Texas law officials under the False Claims Act, the DOJ said Tuesday.
