Social Network Quepasa Sent Spam Texts, Suit Says

Law360, New York (August 4, 2011, 1:31 PM EDT) -- A cellphone user brought a proposed class action Wednesday in Nevada federal court accusing a Latino social network company of sending spam text messages that could potentially drive up recipients' phone bills.

Quepasa Corp. sent plaintiff Michelle Kaffko text messages advertising its website without her consent, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, according to the complaint. The texts were made using equipment that inputs random phone numbers so the messages could be sent out to cellphone users on a mass scale, the complaint says....
