Cargill Recalls 36M Pounds Of Turkey Over Salmonella

Law360, New York (August 04, 2011, 12:12 PM ET) -- Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. announced Wednesday it was recalling 36 million pounds of ground turkey and limiting operations at a processing plant after officials tied its products to a salmonella outbreak that has led to 79 illnesses and one death since March.

The massive recall follows the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Friday announcement that salmonella-contaminated ground turkey was likely the culprit behind recent illnesses in 26 states linked to Salmonella Heidelberg, a strain that is resistant to several commonly prescribed antibiotics.
