Law360, New York (August 04, 2011, 8:02 PM ET) -- General Nutrition Corp. and two dietary supplement makers were hit with a class action Wednesday in Pennsylvania claiming they duped consumers into buying products that contain trace amounts of a hormone long discredited as a weight-loss method.
GNC stands accused of selling a product that contains a hormone produced by pregnant women called hCG that is purported to curb appetite. Coupled with a low-calorie diet, hCG injections have been prescribed to patients seeking to lose weight.
