JPML Won't Join Privacy Suits Against Apple, Google

Law360, New York (August 8, 2011, 7:04 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said Monday that it will maintain separate MDLs in California to resolve similar claims accusing Apple Inc. and Google Inc. of violating consumer privacy laws by offering smartphone apps that allegedly track user data.

The Northern District of California is the best venue for both MDLs because both suits were first filed in that court and because the court is close to the headquarters of several defendants, including Apple and Google, the JPML said.
