Goldman Faces Mortgage Suit Threats From AIG, Others

Law360, New York (August 9, 2011, 2:39 PM EDT) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said Tuesday that numerous companies — including American International Group Inc., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — were threatening suits over its mortgage-related securities, and that regulatory agencies were probing whether it violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

The company disclosed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing that at least seven companies had  “threatened to assert claims against the firm in connection with various mortgage-related offerings.”

Goldman and several of its affiliates are also under investigation for potentially breaking bribery...
