Law360, New York (August 09, 2011, 6:08 PM ET) -- A Rhode Island attorney on Monday appealed his conviction and approximately five-year sentence for acting as a middleman in a public corruption and kickback scheme run by three North Providence, R.I., town council members.
Robert S. Ciresi challenged the 63-month sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Mary M. Lisi on Friday and the judge's earlier refusal to release Ciresi on bail pending his appeal. Ciresi faced a maximum sentence of 35 years in prison.
