Providence Not Liable In Superfund Damage Fight

Law360, New York (August 18, 2011, 7:49 PM ET) -- A Rhode Island federal judge on Tuesday granted Providence Washington Insurance Co.'s bid to toss a dispute over its duty to defend New England Container Co. against claims that it damaged a Superfund site, saying Providence's coverage of the company did not overlap with the period of the alleged damage.

U.S. District Judge William E. Smith denied a motion for summary judgment from Travelers Casualty and Surety Co., which sought to compel Providence to contribute to NECC's defense.
