FINRA Clarifies Brokerage Social Media Rules

Law360, New York (August 18, 2011, 7:20 PM EDT) -- The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority on Thursday refined its guidelines for how brokerages should use social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, adding details to guidelines set out last year.

FINRA said the additional guidelines, which clarify issues related to linking to third-party content and the launch of blogs and other social feeds by brokers, came in response to questions from member organizations relating to rules set out in January 2010. However, the new guidelines merely modify, but do not change, the original guidance.
