Fed. Circ. Nixes $6.8M IP Award Over Claims Construction

Law360, New York (August 22, 2011, 4:25 PM ET) -- The Federal Circuit on Monday overturned a $6.8 million patent infringement judgment against circuit board diagnostics company Camtek Ltd., saying the district court erred in claims construction of the patent-in-suit.

The Minnesota district court improperly construed a claims limitation in assessing whether Camtek infringed Rudolph Technologies Inc.'s patented system for identifying defects in semiconductor wafers used in circuit fabrication, the appeals court said.

Because the district court incorrectly construed the term "wafer" in Rudolph's infringement suit, the verdict must be vacated, the appeals court said....
