Jury Verdict Against ArcelorMittal Patent Stands

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 8:11 PM EDT) -- A Delaware federal judge on Thursday refused to overturn a jury verdict that found invalid an ArcelorMittal SA patent on steel used in car making and cleared defendant AK Steel Corp.

The verdict, which came down in January, said an ArcelorMittal patent on aluminum-coated boron steel used in car frames was invalid because it was obvious.

AK Steel and two other U.S. steelmakers, furthermore, did not infringe it, the jury ruled — prompting ArcelorMittal to ask U.S. District Judge Sue Robinson either to overturn the verdict...
