Layne Christensen Fires Exec Amid FCPA Probe

Law360, New York (August 30, 2011, 5:22 PM ET) -- Kansas-based Layne Christensen Co. said in a regulatory filing Monday that it had fired the head of its mineral exploration division in connection with its ongoing internal investigation into whether employees paid bribes to officials in African nations.

The company fired senior vice president Eric Despain on Aug. 23, it said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The current vice president of operations for the division, Gernot Penzhom, will take over Despain's duties, Layne said.
