Oil Co. To Pay $3M To Settle Storage Tank Claims

Law360, New York (August 30, 2011, 6:02 PM EDT) -- Golden Gate Petroleum Co. agreed Monday to pay $3 million to resolve claims brought by California’s water regulator and attorney general, as well as 17 district attorneys, that it failed to properly manage underground storage tanks at more than 30 gas stations throughout the state.

State and local prosecutors sued the company in November 2007, after a two-year investigation by the California State Water Resources Control Board revealed numerous safety and monitoring lapses at GGP-owned stations.
