OSHA Steps Up Safety Efforts

Law360, New York (June 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Moving to step up safety enforcement in the petroleum industry after being criticized for its oversight, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is planning to launch investigations into work conditions at refineries across the country.

Under the National Emphasis Program, the agency will carry out 81 inspections over the next two years to examine how well refineries are following the federal Process Safety Management standard, the agency announced Wednesday.
