AT&T Faces Uphill Battle In DOJ Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (August 31, 2011, 12:04 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday moved to block AT&T Inc.'s proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA Inc., launching a civil antitrust action the telecom giant will have a tough time defending, experts say.

The lawsuit filed in Washington says the merger — which would reduce the number of national wireless carriers from four to three — would curb competition for wireless service across the country, creating higher prices, fewer choices and lower quality products for tens of millions of consumers.
