Colgate Lied About Softsoap's Germ-Killing Power: Suit

Law360, New York (September 01, 2011, 4:09 PM ET) -- An Illinois resident launched a putative class action Wednesday accusing Colgate-Palmolive Co. of falsely advertising the germ-killing power of its Softsoap Antibacterial hand soap as superior to other, less expensive liquid hand soap products.

Colgate claims that Softsoap is more effective at killing germs than other liquid hand soaps because it contains the active ingredient triclosan, which is a chlorophenol that can function as an antibacterial and antifungal agent in certain circumstances, according to the complaint.
