New Intel Unit To Vie For DOE Supercomputer Contracts

Law360, New York (September 01, 2011, 7:34 PM ET) -- Intel Corp. on Tuesday announced the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary that will focus on winning U.S. Department of Energy contracts for the development of supercomputers.

Intel Federal LLC will be concentrated on Intel's high performance computing segment and especially on exascale computing work for the DOE. Exascale computing is the next step in supercomputers, theoretically representing an enormous increase in computing power over today's capacity.
