7th Circ. OKs $43M Fees For Rohm & Haas ERISA Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (September 2, 2011, 6:35 PM EDT) -- The Seventh Circuit on Friday affirmed a $180 million settlement that included $43.5 million in attorneys’ fees in a class action claiming chemical manufacturer Rohm and Haas Co.'s pension fund shortchanged employees who took lump sum retirement payments.

“After eight years, the end is near for this dispute,” Circuit Judge Michael Kanne noted in a decision striking down objections by two groups of class members and approving the settlement and an award of attorneys’ fees topping 24 percent of the total.
