Netherlands Widens Hacking Probe Traced To Iran

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 2:06 PM EDT) -- The Netherlands was reportedly expanding its investigation Tuesday into a Dutch unit of Internet security company VASCO Data Security International Inc. over the issuance of fraudulent Web security certificates that may have been used by the Iranian government to spy on people.

VASCO's subsidiary, DigiNotar, provides Web browser security certificates for Dutch government websites, which purportedly guarantee their safety for users. According to the New York Times, Dutch authorities have asked DigiNotar to provide information proving that the government sites weren't compromised.
