Sprint Sues To Block $39B AT&T, T-Mobile Merger

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 3:44 PM EDT) -- Sprint Nextel Corp. sued AT&T Inc. and Deutsche Telekom in Washington on Tuesday to block AT&T's planned $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA Inc., arguing the deal would hurt customers and hinder rival wireless carriers.

The company's suit under the Clayton Act, which comes on the heels of the U.S. Department of Justice's own efforts to stop the merger, claims the transaction would cement the duopoly AT&T and fellow Ma Bell descendant Verizon Communications Inc. hold over the nearly $250 billion wireless market.
