Redbox Customers Seek Class Cert. In ZIP Code Suit

Law360, New York (September 07, 2011, 1:30 PM ET) -- A group of Redbox Automated Retail LLC customers asked a California federal judge on Tuesday to certify a class action against the DVD rental company that claims it forced customers to provide their ZIP codes after California's Supreme Court found the practice illegal.

Consumers had lodged two separate suits on Feb. 17 against Redbox, which rents and sells DVDs, Blu-Ray discs and video games through automated kiosks placed at airports, restaurants and major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens and Safeway. Customers pay for the DVDs using...
