Convicted Terra Exec Denied Release Before Sentencing

Law360, New York (September 8, 2011, 5:54 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Wednesday refused to release Terra Telecommunications Corp.'s former president from prison while he awaits sentencing over a scheme to bribe officials at a purportedly state-owned company in Haiti, finding that he posed a flight risk.

U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez said there wasn't clear and convincing evidence that Joel Esquenazi wouldn't flee if released, denying the defendant's motion asking the court to reconsider his detainment.
