Maxim Healthcare To Pay $150M To End Fraud Allegations

Law360, New York (September 12, 2011, 5:01 PM EDT) -- Maxim Healthcare Services Inc. will pay a $150 million settlement to end criminal and civil allegations that it engaged in a decadelong, nationwide billing scheme that allegedly defrauded Medicaid and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs programs, prosecutors said Monday.

The investigation, which followed a 2004 whistleblower complaint and had not been previously revealed, has already led nine people — including several senior managers — to plead guilty to criminal charges.
