Facebook, Yahoo Sued Over Digital Coding Patent

Law360, New York (September 12, 2011, 12:49 PM EDT) -- Princeton Digital Image Corp. on Saturday accused Facebook Inc., Yahoo Inc. and several photo-hosting websites of infringing a digital coding patent in the company's latest Texas suit over the technology.

The complaint, which also names Shutterfly Inc., ImageShack Corp. and Photobucket.com Inc., is the third suit Princeton Digital has launched since 2010 over the same patent.

The suit asserts U.S. Patent Number 4,813,056, issued in 1989 and titled "Modified statistical coding of digital signals." The patent was originally assigned by its inventor to General Electric Co....
