Facebook, Google, Others Sued Over Autocompletion IP

Law360, New York (September 14, 2011, 4:50 PM ET) -- Messaging systems offered by Facebook Inc., Google Inc., LinkedIn Corp. and Yahoo Inc. infringe a patent for autocompletion technology held by Auto-Completion Solutions LLC, the company says in a suit filed Wednesday in Delaware federal court.

The patent-in-suit, U.S. Patent Number 6,879,691, describes an “information autocompletion system” that fills in certain information, such as the email address or name of a message recipient, after a user starts typing and then selects that name or address from a list.
