UK Watchdog Yanks Unilever Fabric Softener Ads

Law360, New York (September 14, 2011, 6:39 PM EDT) -- Britain's advertising watchdog on Wednesday ordered Unilever UK Ltd. to pull three television and print ads that unlawfully portrayed its Comfort Pure product as the country's most trusted fabric softener for sensitive skin.

The Advertising Standards Authority prohibited the dissemination of the current form of the disputed ads after finding that they breached the misleading advertisement, substantiation and comparisons with identifiable competitors rules of both the U.K. Code of Non-Broadcast Advertising, Sales and Direct Marketing and the U.K. Code of Broadcast Advertising.
