US Drilling Chief Says Deepwater Sanctions Coming Soon

Law360, New York (September 15, 2011, 3:17 PM EDT) -- The director of the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement reportedly said Thursday that it could sanction BP PLC and others as early as next week for violations that led to the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

Michael Bromwich, head of the BOEMRE, said the agency that oversees offshore drilling was drawing up notices of violation that would be sent “as early as next week,” according to news reports on the Houston Chronicle's Fuel Fix blog and elsewhere.
