General Mills Sues Fage Over Total Trademark

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 1:41 PM EDT) -- General Mills Inc. asked a Minnesota federal court on Friday to block Fage Dairy Processing SA from using the word “total” on its yogurt, in the wake of a Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruling that it could cause confusion with General Mills’ Total cereal.

The Minneapolis-based cereal giant seeks an injunction and treble damages against Greek yogurt maker Fage, the latest chapter in an 11-year wrangle between the two companies over the word “total.”
