Michaels Pays $1.8M To End Sale Promotion Probe

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 4:05 PM EDT) -- The attorney general of the state of New York announced Monday he had netted a $1.8 million settlement with Michaels Stores Inc. over the crafts retailer's advertising of a custom framing sale that allegedly had no end date.

Michaels promoted its custom framing as either 50 percent off or as sold at a certain discount for at least 104 consecutive weeks, but New York state law prohibits sales that never end, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.
