Ranchers, Enviros To Rustle Up Suit Over Coal Permits

Law360, New York (September 21, 2011, 11:52 AM EDT) -- Two environmental groups on Monday threatened to sue the Montana Department of Environmental Quality on behalf of ranchers downstream from coal mines, alleging the agency rubber-stamped mining permits without conducting required water pollution tests.

The Montana Environmental Information Center and the Sierra Club said in a letter that they would bring claims against the DEQ in 60 days unless it stops issuing permits without examining potential damage to ground and surface water caused by coal mining.
