Apple Hit With Microprocessor Patent Suit

Law360, New York (September 22, 2011, 6:44 PM EDT) -- Taiwan-based VIA Technologies Inc. slapped Apple Inc. with a lawsuit in Delaware on Wednesday, claiming that Apple's smartphones, tablet computers and media players infringed its microprocessor patents.

VIA and its U.S. subsidiaries IP-First LLC and Centaur Technology Inc. allege that Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple's products — including the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod touch and Apple TV — violate three microprocessor patents.

The patents cover technology for the loading, conversion and transfer of data in microprocessors, which increases the microprocessors' operational speed, according to the complaint....
