FCC Backs AT&T, Verizon Access To HD Sports Channels

Law360, New York (September 22, 2011, 8:14 PM ET) -- The Federal Communications Commission ruled Thursday that Madison Square Garden LP must stop withholding access to high-definition versions of its regional sports channels from Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc., saying MSG's offer of only standard channels is anti-competitive.

AT&T and Verizon filed complaints with the FCC against MSG, which was then a wholly owned subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corp., in 2009. MSG was spun off from Cablevision in February 2010, but both companies are still controlled by the Dolan family.
