Sunday Mirror Dodges UK Soccer Star's Privacy Suit

Law360, New York (September 29, 2011, 7:27 PM EDT) -- A British high court on Thursday threw out Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United's privacy case against the Sunday Mirror over an article about an alleged extramarital affair, ruling the newspaper's freedom of expression trumped the soccer star's right to privacy.

Justice Andrew Nicol of the High Court of Justice's Queen's Bench Division dismissed Ferdinand’s case against Sunday Mirror publisher MGN Ltd., rejecting his claims that the newspaper intruded on his privacy with an article in which Ferdinand’s mistress publicly revealed their long-running affair.
