Mexican Chain Owner Real Mex Aims For Sale In Ch. 11

Law360, New York (October 4, 2011, 1:00 PM EDT) -- Citing a dip in revenues due to the weak economy, restaurant chain operator Real Mex Restaurants Inc. on Tuesday filed for bankruptcy protection with the intent of selling off its assets.

The Cypress, Calif.-based company — which operates the El Torito, El Torito Grill, Chevys Fresh Mex and Acapulco Mexican Restaurant chains, among others — said in a filing in the Delaware bankruptcy court that it attempted to sell itself to creditors through the bankruptcy process as early as September.
