Death Toll From Cantaloupe Listeria Outbreak Up To 21

Law360, New York (October 7, 2011, 7:25 PM EDT) -- A nationwide listeria outbreak traced to cantaloupe has now claimed 21 lives, government health authorities announced Friday, a day after a New York fruit seller recalled 5,000 packages of cut cantaloupe because of the deadly bacteria.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that more than 100 people in 24 states had been reported infected with listeriosis.
