Pharma Co. Wants Ropes & Gray Atty Tossed From IP Suit

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 6:14 PM EDT) -- Seikagaku Corp. on Thursday asked a Massachusetts federal court to disqualify a Ropes & Gray LLP attorney representing Genzyme Corp. in its patent infringement suit against the Japanese pharmaceutical company, saying he will be called upon to testify in the trial.

Seikagaku said that because James F. Haley Jr. helped Genzyme register one of the patents which Seikagaku alleges is invalid for misrepresentation during the registration process, the attorney should be precluded from representing Genzyme in the suit.
